Custom Colt 605
I guess one could call the 605 the father of the Dissipator. The 605 was a cut-down M16 that saw limited service in Vietnam. The full-length gas system with the shorter barrel was throwing the timing off, causing even more reliability issues. Note the three pronged USGI M16 flash hider. This one is a pretty nice build.
Well, I’m flattered that people think this is a 605, I guess I did a good job with the build… However this is gun is in fact a dissipator, with a mid length gas system under the hand-guard; so I guess your point about 605 being the inspiration for the ever-popular dissipator set-up is ironically true here. When I was piecing this gun together the 605 was my main inspiration, however you’ll notice that it’s really only superficially similar with the bits of A1 furniture and the three prong flash hider. The gun has a modern receiver (not a slab side), A2 upper, and the barrel is a heavy contour match grade 16” WOA with the much more reliable (on a barrel under 18”) mid-length gas system. I have since sold this gun, but some day I want to build another 605, a real 605 clone, I think it’s the most interesting retro M16 variant; second only to the model 607… I posted this picture on here a while ago, but I’m guessing you found it somewhere else, did you find the picture on one of the forums?
This is probably the best source for info on the 605 and the 607

Today, lets give thanks that my tax stamp finally arrived, and I was able to assemble this awesome new SBR.
If you can’t already tell, I’m very fond of my Vermont and it’s coat of arms. I’m near completion of my first AR15 SBR, and I wanted something a little more personal than the average lower with some random companies ugly rollmark. So I decided to have my lower engraved with the VT coat of arms. After creating a vector version of the design, I had the engraving done by Ident Marking Service. I think it looks pretty good…
